Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 2 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tributes to those who lost their lives in 1994 ‘Mussoorie Goli Kand’, which took place during the movement for the formation of the state of Uttarakhand.
“I pay tributes to all those people who gave their present for our future and the formation of the state of Uttarakhand. This will be remembered as a black day in the history of our state,” said CM Dhami on Tuesday.
“On Sept 1, Khatima Goli Kand had taken place where many people had lost their lives…Our six people who took part in the protest lost their lives in Mussorrie,” the CM added further.
While paying tribute to the martyred state agitators, he honoured their families in a program organised on the 31st anniversary of the Mussoorie firing incident. The Chief Minister has said that the state government is working with determination to create the Uttarakhand of the dreams of the state agitators.
In a program organized at the Shaheed Smarak in Mussoorie on Tuesday, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the agitators Balbir Singh Negi, Belmati Chauhan, Hansa Dhanai, Dhanpat Singh, Rai Singh Bangari and Madan Mohan Mamgai who were martyred in Mussoorie during the Uttarakhand State Movement and said that the state agitators made their unique contribution in the creation of Uttarakhand by putting their present at stake for our better future.
He further stated that September 2, 1994, will be marked as a black chapter in the state’s history. On this day, the agitators who were peacefully demonstrating at Veerbhoomi of Mussoorie had to face police bullets. This incident was a symbol of the repressive attitude of the ruling parties of the time, who tried to crush a peaceful movement mercilessly.
The Chief Minister said that the government has expressed its gratitude to the state agitators by implementing a 10 per cent horizontal reservation in government jobs for them and their dependents.
Along with this, a monthly pension facility of Rs 3000 has also been started for the families of martyred agitators. Injured and jailed agitators are being given a pension of Rs 6,000, and active agitators are being given Rs 4,500 per month.
Uttarakhand CM further added that during the time of previous governments, there was a provision of horizontal reservation for only one dependent of the state agitators.
However, under the new law, the abandoned, widowed, and divorced daughters of the identified agitators will also be eligible to receive the benefit of this reservation. Furthermore, the state government has also employed 93 identified state agitators in government service, in addition to issuing them identity cards.
Free education is being provided to the children of state agitators in schools and colleges, and the agitators are also given the facility of free travel on government buses. The Chief Minister said that the state government has also implemented a 30 per cent horizontal reservation for women in government jobs.
The Chief Minister, emphasising the culture and language, said that the dream of the state agitators was to create such a Uttarakhand where our culture, language and traditions are preserved. With this objective, the state government has implemented the “Uniform Civil Code” and ensured equal rights and duties for all citizens in the state.
At the same time, to provide equal employment opportunities with transparency to the youth of the state, the country’s most effective anti-copying law was implemented, and more than 100 copy mafia members were sent to jail. Following this, more than 25,000 youths in Uttarakhand have successfully secured government jobs.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is working with full commitment to protect the demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. For this, while a strict anti-conversion law was implemented in the state, more than 9,000 acres of government land have been freed from encroachment.
Along with this, the state government has enacted a strict anti-riot law to serve as a deterrent to rioters and has also required them to compensate for the losses caused during the riots.
Recently, the government has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board in the state by implementing a new law. After the implementation of this law, only those madrasas will be able to operate in Uttarakhand after July 1, 2026, that teach the curriculum prescribed by the government board.
More than 250 madrasas operating illegally in the state have also been closed. The state government is also taking strict action through ‘Operation Kalanemi’ against the hypocrites who defame the Sanatan culture in the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister discussed plans to build the Garhwal Sabha Bhawan soon, resolve the matter of the Siphon Court soon, and assured quick action on other demands, including the announcement of a vendor zone in Mussoorie. The CM stated that the state government will also celebrate the birth centenary of the late Indramani Badoni, a prominent figure in the Uttarakhand movement, in a lavish manner. (ANI)
