Samba (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], December 16 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Monday that Ustad Zakir Hussain was a great artist and his death created a vacuum in the country.
Speaking to reporters in Sambha, CM Omar Abdullah said, ” “He was a great artist…This is sad news…I pray to God that may his soul rest in peace…,” CM Omar said in his tribute.
“A vacuum has been created following his death, especially in the cultural circles. It is impossible to fulfil,” he said.
Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15 in San Fransisco, USA, at the age of 73. The cause of the death was confirmed to be idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease. The news was confirmed by Jon Bleicher of Prospect PR, representing the family.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest percussionists of all time, Ustad Zakir Hussain was not only a master of his craft but also a cultural bridge-builder who elevated Indian classical music to international acclaim.
